Back to Santa Rosalia after 2 years
Long overdue for an update once again!
We are now up in the Santa Rosalia area, currently anchored out at Isla San Marcos, in Sweet Pea Cove. We are definitely having fall weather now. The cooler temperatures are welcome, however the other significant change is the arrival of the Northers. The Northers are strong winds that blow for several days, and occur a couple of times a month. These winds are related to the Santa Ana's that blow in Southern California. We were in the harbor for the last one so the wind/waves were no problem, but the boat is completely covered in dust. The outside of the boat is filthy and even the inside is quite dusty. We need to get to a dock and a hose so that we can clean things up.
Santa Rosalia was severely damaged by Hurricane Jimena, but evidence of that is rapidly fading. The cleanup continues but life seems back to normal. Photos after the hurricane showed several feet of mud in the streets, cars swept away and destroyed, and debris everywhere. Today nearly all the businesses are open the damaged area are being repaired. It is amazing how quickly things were repaired. We have been able to visit all our favorites places (ice cream, shrimp tacos, etc...) The marina here lost several docksw to the storm, but it is slowly being rebuilt and is once again the social center for the cruising boats. We had a little birthday party there for Cindy a few days ago (the big *0!). This is starting to be a tradition as we did the same 2 years ago.
A nice occurrence is that we have been running into friends that we have not seen in a long time. We had not seen Annie and Casey on V'Ger (a Baba 35) for at least a year and a half. There were several other boats that we have met up with as well. It was nice to catch up and have a nice visit. Cruising and moving around a lot means that you often make friends and then split up, never knowing when or if you will see each other again.
